What Is SEO?
Building a website is pointless if no one can find it, and three-quarters of everything that happens on the internet starts with a hit on a search engine. Search engines drive the internet. Ignore them, and you might as well turn away three of every four customers who ask for help.

Over the past few years search engines have become the main resource for people looking for a business, product or service. Instead of buying that full page ad in your local yellow pages, business owners are now pulling there hair trying to figure out how to get onto that first page of google. But what is SEO and why do certain sites get on the first page of Google and others don’t? It is because of a powerful web content technique called Search Engine Optimization, which is usually shortened to SEO. According to Wikipedia, Search Engine Optimization is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine‘s “natural” or un-paid (“organic“) search results.
For example, if your company sells sporting equipment you would expect to rank well when people look for baseball bats & gloves. Ranking high in search engines is important because 75% of users don’t go past the first page. With the top 3 slots get 55% of clicks.

Successful SEO depends on a variety of factors. These include such elements such as Titles, URL, keywords, tags, description, images, sitemap, loading speed and internal link structures. It also depends on how each specific search engine operates and what their expectations are.
The most important above all else, your website must contain quality relevant content. Modern search engines expect sites to contain quality content that is useful, factually correct and not solely designed for sales purposes (except shop fronts and selling areas of course).
