Success in the digital marketing world requires you to be innovative, and forward-thinking. Trends are changing at such a rapid pace, that if you don’t keep up and implement strategies around them, you risk being left behind. This year, we saw more trends, features, and inventions than we’ve seen in years past. COVID-19 caused many of us to take a step back and see the world from a different lens. As you enter the new year, there are some trends you should keep on your radar and implement for business success.
Here are 6 social media trends to watch for in 2021:
Visual Searches
The digital marketing realm is becoming more and more focused on making things simpler for consumers. With that being said, 2021 is going to see the introduction of visual searches. Visual searches use artificial intelligence to help people search for products through images. Google does this with their image search, but as this trend develops more, we will see other platforms utilizing this feature as well. Oftentimes when words are hard to find, we turn to images.
In 2021 we will see Google Lens, Pinterest Lens, CamFind, and Bing Visual Search. These features will use an image recognition feature to bring up relevant information. You can take pictures of everyday objects and thousands of images will show up. Through this feature, you can search and shop. Understanding the world around you will get easier.
Voice Search
Just as visual searches are being implemented for the sake of simplicity, so are voice searches. From Siri to Alexa, voice search is taking over. Voice search is not only good for consumers, it’s also good for business owners because it can have a positive impact on your SEO. It can lead to increased web traffic and a more positive customer experience. For example, look at Whirlpool. They partnered with Amazon to develop a line of voice-activated appliances. Utilizing the power of voice search can make it easier to keep competitors out. Voice search can change the way your business communities, watch it take off this year.
Influencer Marketing
Think about how Influencer Marketing looked 10, even 5 years ago. Back then the idea of Influencer Marketing was not widely heard of. This year, saw the emergence of thousands of new influencers and even more businesses jumping to partner with them.
Think about Tabitha Brown. Vegan, Wife, Mom, Revolutionary. In March of 2020, she made the decision to make her first TikTok video of her making vegan recipes and from there, her rise to fame grew. She was personable, funny, and relatable and she quickly had followers in the millions. She soon secured deals with the likes of Target, Ellen, Goli Gummies, and a host of vegan brands.
Truthfully speaking, people love people. Through video content and an emphasis on building personal connections, influencer marketing will continue to rise. We associate people with products. That’s why when Adidas partnered with Beyoncé the products flew off the shelves. Influencer Marketing is now, I’m sure we will see many exciting Influencer Marketing trends in 2021.
Video Marketing
We saw how the video took off in 2020. TikTok alone amassed billions of new users. This is a trend that is not slowing down anytime soon. As consumers, it’s easier to watch a video than to read an article. YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram all saw at least a 25% increase in their engagement. In 2021, we are expecting to see an increase in webinars, live videos, and similar videos across different social networks.
Video promotes the idea of human connection and trust me, human connection is the prime way your business will win. Incorporate video in as many places as you can. Places to include a video can be: on your website’s landing page, in PPC ads, and on your Google My Business Page. Video marketing can take place in any form, if you haven’t incorporated video marketing into your strategy it’s not too late to start.
Social Commerce
Instagram set the standard for shoppable posts. Statistically speaking, when analyzing the time users spend online, it is between social media and eCommerce. Instagram made the decision to introduce shoppable posts to bridge the gap between eCommerce and social media. Other sites have followed suit, such as Pinterest and in 2021 we expect to see other sites like Twitter and TikTok follow suit.
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is the future and the future is now. aI was sporadically used in 2020, but this year we will see more businesses utilizing it. With the increasing use of AI, we can see how users behave online, what their buying patterns look like, and offer proper targeting for your target audience. Lenses and filters will continue to be developed as we have a continued emphasis on personality. Predictive tools will continue to pop up on your favorite sites so that your search and shopper experience is easier.
If you want to kick off your business success this year, keep your eyes out for these 6 trends and incorporate them into your future marketing strategies.
